A campus for the 21st century learner

Access to technology and, more recently, the pandemic has changed the way students are learning today . Acquiring new knowledge is not anymore limited to the classroom nor having a class is about being confined with a teacher and classmates in one space. Collaborative learning is given as much emphasis as individual learning, thus a campus that creates an environment that encourages both kinds of approaches is key.

These are just some trends in learning that will continue to evolve. Miriam College Alviera is specifically designed to adopt to these changes in the years to come.

Designed by a top Filipino architect

Miriam College Alviera is designed by one of the country’s top architects, Ar. Ed Calma of Lor Calma & Partners. He envisions an inspired and sustainable 10-hectare campus balanced by a surrounding that has easy access to commercial areas as well as sprawling green landscapes and views.

Ar. Calma is not only keen on maximizing the natural rolling terrain of the space but aims to make it a reflection of the creative programs that school intends to develop as it carves a niche to serve a ‘creative generation’ in the area.

“Centralized organization of academic spaces and informal breakout spaces will be integrated to promote interaction and collaboration,” said Ar. Calma.

Apart from designing the school’s very own Henry Sy, Sr. Innovation Center, Ar. Calma is also known for notable projects such as the Mind Museum, School of Design and Arts - College of St. Benilde, British School Manila Visual Performing Arts Building, and DLSU Centennial Building.

Ar. Calma’s concept for Miriam College Alviera highlights a ‘flexible and efficient space’ that adopts to the site’s original character as well as its unique topography.  It will be a campus design sensitive to terrain, vegetation, and views while placing emphasis on sustainability.

Home of the Creative Generation

Miriam College Alviera is intentionally designed to achieve interaction and collaboration by featuring central and breakout spaces that adopts to the students' diverse learning styles.

There are two main clusters, an Academic Complex and a Sports Complex, that covers a gross floor area of 150,000 sqm. The sinewy and softer edges of the building are a reflection of the schools emphasis on flexibility and fluidity in learning. The tallest structure is no higher than four-storeys, lending spaciousness and openness to the area.

Structures are interconnected to one another, yet each has its distinct characteristic.  Open spaces are consistent features in all common areas, where everyone is free to make it a fertile space for new ideas.

True to the school's mission of making it a "home for the creative generation," there will always be a corner, a room, a place, and a space where every member of the community can converge, collaborate, or start something exciting.

INNOVATIVE

The Miriam College Alviera campus provides learning opportunities for a community of learners that grew up in a region well known for its craftsmanship, culinary expertise, creativity, rich traditions, and entrepreneurial spirit. It features an Innovation Center where new inventions are encouraged so critical thinking, problem solving, and design thinking are harnessed.

This Center has rooms intended for prototyping, product-testing, and incubation as well as simulation laboratories where students can try their products in a real world setting and see how else they can be improved. These  rooms are complemented with spaces like Dancing Halls and Glee Rooms so the young can start early in other art forms.

The Exhibition Hall is where all the excitement happens and the ‘fruit of one’s labor’ can be showcased. It is a place where the MC Alviera community can converge to be entertained with performances, test out new inventions or products, and simply learn from what others have created.

MC Alviera will be a fertile place of innovation, where what was once imagined becomes a reality.

FLEXIBLE

As a ‘home of the creative generation,’ MC Alviera is designed to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners. Classrooms are flexible and feature large-scale, reconfigurable spaces for multilevel instruction.

Collaborative learning is supported by learning commons, huddle pods, and breakout spaces, where students across age groups can conduct discussions, start a dialogue, or freely exchange ideas for a new project.

Where there are collaborative spaces, there, too, are quiet learning hubs equipped with computer stations that are fully connected, giving individual learners their own place so they can work at their own pace.

GREEN

Truly green campuses are few and far between in the country. Miriam College is one of the few that has consistently built a learning environment that is surrounded by nature and that has deliberately integrated sustainable programs to lessens the impact of its operations on Mother Earth.

In Miriam College Alviera, green and open spaces will be an extension of the classrooms. Where a space is bordered by walls, nature will be the provider light, ventilation, and relaxing views. Where students can be around nature, there will be generous open areas and meticulously designed spaces dedicated for active play, extra-curricular activities, creativity, as well as serious learning.

Just like the Loyola Heights, Quezon City and Nuvali campuses before it, Miriam College Alviera will feature the same lush and natural surroundings that is accessible to all. This will be complemented with green and energy-saving programs on water, energy, and waste management to contribute to a cleaner environment for the MC Alviera community and its neighbors.
