Academic Program
The Miriam College Grade School curriculum nurtures well-rounded individuals with a lifelong love for learning. Teachers use varied approaches and strategies to ensure an effective teaching-learning process.
Major Subjects
The CLE / GMRC / VE program
Aims to present the fundamentals of Christian living, a life rich in the Blessed Trinity that integrates Scripture, doctrine, liturgy, community building, and social action. Students become agents of love and service and active participants in building a Catholic community in the midst of challenges brought by the changing times and events, local and global.
The English program
Aims to develop communicative competence and critical literacy. In order to develop well-rounded literacy skills, students benefit from explicit instruction that covers a variety of literary genres such as fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. The macro skills in communication are also meaningfully integrated into the lessons. Through the English program, the students are envisioned to become proficient speakers, effective writers, and enthusiastic and reflective readers.
The Science program
Emphasizes both the concepts and processes with the aim to inculcate scientific attitudes and values. Science instruction provides for meaningful experiences through the guided discovery approach and hands-on activities like experimenting, reporting, doing research, building models, and working on investigatory projects.
The Mathematics program
Aims to develop a solid foundation and mastery of basic mathematical skills. It focuses on developing the proficiency of the students in Mathematical concepts and understanding, computation, and problem-solving. Lessons are presented using a wide range of strategies, varied hands-on activities, and hands-on learning materials.
Ang asignaturang Filipino
Binubuo ng dalawang bahagi - Wika at Pagbasa upang malinang sa bawat mag-aaral ang epektibong komunikasyon sa pagbasa, pagsulat at pakikipagtalastasan. Inaasahan na ang bawat mag-aaral ay masasabi ang mga pangunahing diwa sa mga tekstong binasa o napakinggan, matutukoy ang mga kasingkahulugan at kasalungat ng mga salita, at magagamit at makakasulat gamit ang iba’t ibang bahagi ng pananalita upang maipahayag at maiugnay ang sariling ideya, damdamin, at karasanan sa mga narinig at nabasang teksto.
Ang Araling Panlipunan
Binubuo ng pitong tema na may paksang: 1) tao, kapaligiran, at lipunan; 2) panahon, pagpapatuloy, at pagbabago; 3) kultura, pananagutan, at pagkabansa; 4) karapatan, pananagutan, at pagkamamamayan; 5) kapangyarihan, awtoridad, at pamamahala; 6) produksiyon, distribusyon, at pagkonsumo; 7) at ugnayang pangrehiyon at pangmundo. Ang mag-aaral ay kinakailangang makabuo ng sariling kahulugan at pagpapakahulugan sa bawat paksang pinag-aaralan at ang pagsasalin nito sa ibang konteksto lalo na ang aplikasyon nito sa tunay na buhay na may kabuluhan mismo sa kanya at sa lipunang kanyang ginagalawan.
Special Subjects
The Music Education program
Aims to enhance the students’ musical understanding and appreciation through the ability to perceive and perform music aesthetically. The program is a balance among music theory, music history, and music performance. Students learn and develop different musical concepts through varied musical experiences such as singing, listening, composing, performing, and doing music analysis. Through a holistic and integrative approach, classroom learning also enhances critical thinking, develops values, and instills nationalism and high regard for history and culture.
The Art program
Merges the creative and aesthetic aspects of the three H's - the Head, by developing the students' keen sense of awareness and application of beauty; the Heart, for it encourages personal expression, and the Hand, manifested in the creation of functional and creative works of art. Students develop a deep sense of love for local and world-class art forms, artists, and their styles. They also explore proper techniques of using various art materials for building confidence, personal satisfaction and excitement while developing their art skills in the process of completing an artwork.
The Physical Education program
Strives to create a pleasurable and appropriate learning environment that motivates students to remain physically active. The program focuses on the promotion of good health, physical fitness, and safety skills. It also develops a variety of skills involved in body management, rhythmic movement, and fundamental and specialized skills used in sports. Through the different activities, the students are given opportunities to practice sportsmanship, cooperation, and team building.
The Health program
Aims to promote, achieve, and maintain lifelong health and total well-being of the students. It strives to provide them with knowledge and foundation in developing skills pertinent to attaining a good quality of living. The program focuses on preventing and controlling diseases; knowing the use, abuse, and misuse of substances; reducing health-related risk behaviors; preventing and controlling injuries; and promoting good nutrition.
The Home Economics and Livelihood Education program
Focused on skills development that will prepare the students for home management and entrepreneurship, equipped with basic lifelong values for a satisfying family life. The hands-on activities and practical livelihood projects lead them to appreciate the value of work. These prepare them to take active roles as empowered members of the home, the community, and the larger society.
The Computer Education program
Aims to promote computer literacy and responsible use of technology. Students are exposed to full-featured applications, web browsing, web page construction, and desktop publishing to equip them with the necessary skills to face the new challenges of digital media.
