CENTER FOR PEACE EDUCATION
The Center for Peace Education is one of Miriam College’s four advocacy centers. We promote a culture of peace through peace education and advocacy. To reach peace, we teach peace. Peace-focused courses are offered in the College and peace concepts and values are infused in MC’s basic education curriculum. The CPE endeavors to institutionalize a “Whole School Approach” as an organizing framework for MC’s peace education thrust and promotes this approach in its training workshops for other schools.
Annually, Miriam College celebrates the International Day of Peace, Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action, Mindanao Solidarity Week and the World Interfaith Harmony Week, among others. On such occasions, members of the community organize activities that raise awareness on peace issues of the day and encourage appropriate actions. The CPE collaborates with local and global civil society and national government peace and education agencies to mainstream peace education and to advocate for peace.

OUR MISSION
To promote a culture of peace which is a set of values, modes of behavior and ways of life that reflects respect for life and human dignity, rejects violence in all its forms, prevents violent conflicts, and recognizes the importance of cooperation, tolerance, dialogue, and women’s participation
WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU?
THROUGH PEACE EDUCATION WE CAN ASSIST YOU TO
BUILDING A CULTURE OF PEACE
We take inspiration from the UNESCO Declaration that a culture of peace is essentially a set of values and modes of behavior that respects life and human dignity, upholds human solidarity and cooperation, rejects violence in all its forms and prevents violent conflicts by tackling their root causes.
UPHOLD GOOD GOVERNANCE, EQUITABLE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
We believe that good governance, economic equity, and ecological sustainability are fundamental to achieving peace. These principles should guide us in transforming our mindsets and behaviors, encouraging us to make choices that promote justice, inclusivity, and environmental care in our communities.
CAMPAIGNING FOR NONVIOLENT SOCIAL CHANGE
We believe that nonviolence is the ethical, practical, and effective pathway toward creating positive social change. By embracing nonviolence, we can engage in constructive dialogue, build understanding, and inspire collective action that leads to lasting transformation in our communities.
CHALLENGING PREJUDICE AND TEACHING TOLERANCE
It has been asserted that humans have a propensity toward prejudice, particularly against those who are considered the “different other,” which in turn, has resulted in various forms of exclusion, intolerance, and discrimination. We educate educators and youth to challenge prejudice and social exclusion.
