In celebration of Mindanao Solidarity Week, the Center for Peace Education organized a hybrid lecture titled, An Update on the Bangsamoro Peace Process last November 14, 2025. We invited Dir. Wendell Orbeso, the Head of the MILF Peace Process Office of the OPAPRU (Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity), to be our resource speaker for this activity. During his discussion, Dir. Orbeso not only gave us a comprehensive background on the peace process, but also left some key messages for our students on how the youth can play a role in sustaining peace. He particularly highlighted the need for youth to engage in community work, promote inclusivity and respect, use their voices responsibly online, and choose empathy and understanding in their daily lives.
The lecture was succeeded by a fruitful exchange of questions and ideas between the students, online participants, and Dir. Orbeso. Then, the program concluded with a closing message from Ms. Beyoncé De Leoz, 3rd Year MCIS student and EVP of Pax Christi Miriam College. As a youth leader, Ms. De Leoz reminded us that “the journey of peace doesn’t end in just one peace agreement. It is a continuous process in which we have a role to play as well”.
