The Center for Peace Education Miriam College in cooperation with Pax Christi Pilipinas, the Uniharmony Partners Manila and MC’s NSTP & MMISMO programs, held its annual World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW) Forum and Youth Peacebuilding Workshop last February 2 to 3, at Miriam College. The two-day celebration began with a forum on the theme of Celebrating Peace in the Midst of Divisions & Conflicts. Mr. Karlo Abadines (Executive Director, Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan) and Ms. Bai Rohaniza Sumndad-Usman (Chief Mission Peace Keeper, Teach Peace Build Peace Movement) discussed the theme from the Christian and Islamic perspectives, respectively.
This was followed by an Interfaith Peacebuilding Workshop for Christian & Muslim Youth, with selected student participants from the peace clubs of our partner schools in BARMM, Balong High School and Raja Muda National Highschool and members of the Pax Christi Miriam College High School. The Pax Christi Miriam College – HEU facilitated the teambuilding activities and accompanied the BARMM guests on a campus tour. The CPE team and CPE associates served as resource persons and facilitators.
Throughout the past couple days, students exemplified what it means to truly celebrate peace in the midst of divisions and conflicts. It also reminds us of the important part the youth plays in transforming our society into a more peaceful one, by embodying universal values of care for humans and for the Earth.
