OUR IDENTITY
The Miriam College – Henry Sy, Sr. Innovation Center (MC-HSSIC) is the Philippines’ first integrated makerspace. This is an alternative learning space that nurtures the 21st century skills of critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. It promotes learner-centered education through DREAMS – design, robotics, engineering and entrepreneurship, arts, mathematics, and social responsibility from preschool to graduate school.

How we started
Inaugurated in 2016 as a fitting marker of the 90th founding anniversary of Miriam College as a trailblazing learning institution, the center has emerged as an icon of innovation-driven learning and teaching. As an ideation space, it affords learners and their mentors the means to integrate skills in design thinking, business incubation, and social enterprise. Indeed, it is not only a playground of exciting ideas. More importantly, it is a laboratory for making novel ideas happen.
Our Philosophy
CREATING A CULTURE OF INNOVATION
Inspired by the life of an icon of innovation, Henry Sy, Sr., the center is premised on a model of creating a culture of innovation that is very local in spirit but global in consciousness. This model is marked by three indigenous processes of active learning – laro (play), likha (produce), and linang (promote).
PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES
Coming up with new ideas—and even challenging old ones—develops habits of ingenuity and novelty. As such, the center leads learners in connecting with mentors like parents, teachers, industry practitioners, and yes, fellow students in order to create new value-adding products and services.
CONNECTING LEARNERS WITH MENTORS
Coming up with new ideas—and even challenging old ones—develops habits of ingenuity and novelty. As such, the center leads learners in connecting with mentors like parents, teachers, industry practitioners, and yes, fellow students in order to create new value-adding products and services.
FOSTERING SELF-RELIANCE AND SUSTAINABILITY
Promoting the value of new products and services builds an entrepreneurial mindset. Through appropriate business simulation exercises, knowledge dissemination, and innovation diffusion events, the center fosters both self-reliance and collective sustainability.
What they say about us
KLANG ALCANTARA
When I was a little girl, I remember enjoying my pre-school days at the MC-Preschool (MC-CSC) because of the cozy pajama-like uniform, the tree house, and Learning Resource Center (LRC). Never did I imagine that Miriam College would be a great part of my life. I was a student of the Miriam College from pre-school to college, spending two years in Preschool, seven in Grade School, four in High School, and another four in college. Miriam College truly became my second home.
REYNA MABULAY
My education in Miriam College has taught me to appreciate a well-rounded and balanced approach to learning. I’ve learned to value not only the lessons taught within the classroom setting that allow us to grow academically, but also those that we may learn beyond our daily requirements that would create an impact on our individual growth. It has empowered me to develop a more service-oriented and open-minded leadership style through the endless opportunities we get to reach out, interact, and serve with all kinds of people. MCHS holistically develops my being, so that I can be of service to others.
