Allister Ting

Allister Ting is a fourth-year BA Communication student whose life is shaped by the balance between creativity and structure—values passed down from her parents and refined through years of storytelling. Her leadership in Radio MC and her long journey as a scholar reveal a quiet resilience, one that shows strength through presence, honesty, and compassion. Through loss, growth, and self-discovery, Allister has learned to move forward with steadiness and intention, carrying a light that guides both her path and the people around her.

“Grace Under Pressure”

Allister Ting, a fourth-year BA Communication student, carries a quiet yet steady kind of strength. For her, communication has always been more than just messages or words, it is about connection. It’s how people understand, feel, and hold space for one another. Ever since she discovered the power of stories, she has paid attention to the small details, the lines, pauses, and subtleties that make a story whole. She believes that every piece matters, that meaning is formed through balance.

That value of balance came from home. From her father, she learned creativity, the freedom to imagine, to express, to see beyond what is right in front of her. From her mother, she learned structure, the importance of being grounded, organized, and intentional. Together, those two shaped how Allister thinks, works, and moves. She learned that creativity grows best when there is something solid to stand on, and that being grounded doesn’t mean staying still, it means knowing where you are, so you can decide where to go next.

Throughout her four years in college, that sense of balance guided her through every change and challenge. Radio MC became one of her pillars. Starting as a member and now serving as President, Allister discovered that leadership isn’t about standing in front, it’s about showing up. It’s listening to what people need, being present through the hard days, and choosing compassion even when things get overwhelming. She learned that connection isn’t always easy, but it is always worth the effort.

Her scholarship journey holds a story close to her heart. Allister has been a scholar since her first year. In the beginning, it was something that carried emotional weight, a reminder of the loss of her mother. But as the years passed, she began to see it differently. It became a symbol of her strength, her growth, and her resilience. It showed her that blessings and hardships can exist together, and that both can shape a person in beautiful ways. Her scholarship is something she now holds with pride, gratitude, and grace.

One of the most meaningful lessons Allister has learned is the importance of being truthful, with others, and with herself. Transparency, for her, means acknowledging where she stands, what she can give, and what she needs. She realized that confidence doesn’t always look bold or loud. Sometimes, confidence is quiet, trembling, and gentle, but still present in the choice to keep going.

Across her journey, Allister has lost and gained, hurt and healed, succeeded and stumbled. And through all of it, she discovered that balance is what holds her together. Balance between strength and softness. Leadership and learning. Steadiness and vulnerability.

She is grateful for the people who shaped her, especially her parents, who taught her the values she carries now. But she also recognizes that continuing to grow is something she chooses every day. How she lives, how she leads, how she loves, that is now in her hands.

For Allister, growth begins with balance:

Staying grounded while still moving forward. Trusting the process even without all the answers. Showing up with truth and love, always.

Her light is calm, steady, and real, one that continues to guide not only her journey, but also the people she walks beside.
