"Trusting the process"
Mary Angelie Villanueva, also known as Angelie, is a 19-year-old BSBA Marketing Management student at Miriam College who describes herself as bubbly, faith-driven, and altruistic. These traits are not just how she sees herself, but also how she consistently shows up in her daily life, bringing positivity into spaces she is part of, staying grounded in her faith, and always looking for ways to help and uplift others. Her story reflects a steady journey of growth shaped by discipline, service, leadership, and a strong sense of purpose.
She chose to pursue Marketing Management because she found a deep interest in creativity, communication, and understanding human behavior. For Angelie, marketing is more than business or promotion. It is about connecting people to ideas, and ideas to impact. She sees it as a field where she can combine both logic and creativity, where strategic thinking meets storytelling. This balance allows her to express herself while also learning how to understand people better, their needs, and what inspires them to act. Over time, this passion has become a guiding force in her academic and personal direction.
Throughout her college journey, Angelie has remained consistent in her academic performance and is currently a Dean’s Lister. However, what she values most is not just the recognition itself, but the discipline and effort behind it. For her, maintaining good academic standing while balancing multiple responsibilities is already a meaningful achievement. It reflects her ability to manage her time, stay focused, and remain committed even when things become overwhelming. She sees her academic journey as something that is not defined by perfection, but by consistency and perseverance.
Beyond academics, Angelie is actively involved in several organizations that have significantly shaped her growth as a student leader. She currently serves as the External Vice President of the Miriam College Junior Marketing Association (MCJMA), where she is involved in coordinating initiatives that help develop marketing students and strengthen their community. She is also a member of Talitha Cumi, an organization that contributes to her personal and spiritual grounding. In addition, she serves as the Chairperson of the KILOS Partylist, a role that has been one of the most defining experiences of her college life.
Becoming the Chairperson of KILOS was not something she initially planned. In fact, she entered the role with hesitation, uncertainty, and very little background knowledge about how a partylist works. At that time, she was not even considering joining another organization. However, despite her doubts, she chose to take the risk. This decision became a turning point in her life. Stepping into leadership forced her to confront her fears, step outside her comfort zone, and learn quickly through experience. It challenged her in ways she did not expect, but it also helped her discover her capability to lead, adapt, and grow under pressure.
Through her involvement in MCJMA, Talitha Cumi, and KILOS, Angelie has developed essential skills such as leadership, communication, adaptability, and teamwork. She has learned how to work with different kinds of people, manage responsibilities, and stay composed in demanding situations. More importantly, these experiences taught her that leadership is not about having all the answers, but about being willing to learn, listen, and serve. She also realized that growth often happens when one chooses to take risks, even without full certainty of the outcome.
Angelie is currently a Merit Scholar at Miriam College, a scholarship she earned after graduating senior high school in the top 10% of her batch. This achievement is something she holds with deep gratitude because it opened doors for her to pursue higher education and engage in opportunities that contribute to her development. Being a scholar is not only a privilege for her, but also a responsibility. It motivates her to stay consistent, work hard, and remain mindful of the effort and sacrifices behind her education.
Her scholarship experience is closely tied to her family background and personal motivations. As the eldest daughter of a hardworking mother who raised her children while serving as both a mother and father figure, Angelie carries a deep sense of responsibility. While she acknowledges that her basic needs were provided for, she is also fully aware of the sacrifices her mother continues to make. Because of this, her scholarship becomes more than academic support, it becomes a way of easing her mother’s burden and honoring her efforts. This awareness strengthens her determination to succeed not just for herself, but for her family as well.
To stay grounded amidst her responsibilities, Angelie relies heavily on her faith in God. Her spiritual beliefs play a central role in how she navigates life, especially during moments of uncertainty or pressure. She also practices discipline and maintains a mindset that helps her stay focused on her goals. These values guide her in overcoming challenges and remind her to trust the process, even when things feel unclear or overwhelming.
She also believes that her achievements are not the result of luck, but of consistency, effort, and courage. For Angelie, success is built through small, intentional actions done over time. Each responsibility she takes on, whether academic or organizational, contributes to her growth and helps shape her identity as a student leader.
Angelie is passionate about advocacies centered on service, leadership, and empowerment. She actively participates in initiatives that aim to create meaningful impact within the student community. For her, advocacy is not just about supporting causes, but about taking action. Whether through organizing events, working with teams, or simply being someone others can rely on. She believes that even in small ways, students can contribute to building a more supportive and inclusive environment.
Looking ahead, Angelie aspires to build a successful career in marketing while also pursuing her long-term goal of establishing her own business. She hopes to use the skills, experiences, and values she is developing now to create something meaningful in the future. More than personal success, she envisions a career where she can make a positive impact on others and contribute to society in a purposeful way.
The Academic Year 2025–2026 has been especially meaningful for her, as it taught her the importance of taking risks and trusting the process. She learned that growth does not always come from certainty or comfort, but often from moments of doubt and courage. It is in these moments that she discovers her strength and potential.
Angelie lives by the principle, “If it’s for you, it’s for you.” For her, this means trusting that what is meant to happen in her life will unfold at the right time, according to God’s plan. This belief helps her let go of unnecessary fear and comparison, and instead focus on her own journey.
This principle is deeply rooted in her favorite Bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This verse serves as her reminder that even in moments of uncertainty, there is purpose in her path and hope in her future.
In the end, Angelie continues to move forward with faith, discipline, and purpose. She remains committed to growing as a student, leader, and individual who strives not only for success, but also for meaning. Her journey is still unfolding, but she walks it with trust believing that every experience, challenge, and opportunity is shaping her into the person she is meant to become.
