"The Quiet Weight of Showing Up"
Anya Lupig Alcid, a 3rd Year BSBA Human Resource Management student, carries herself with a balance that feels both grounded and intentional. She describes herself as driven, meticulous, and relaxed. She does not easily walk away from things left unfinished, pays attention to details others might overlook, and has learned that caring deeply does not have to come at the cost of calmness. For her, it is possible to hold both.
Her decision to pursue Human Resource Management came from a desire for both stability and meaning. She has always believed that people are the most valuable resource in any space, and HRM gave her the language to understand that belief more clearly. More than just a practical choice, the course became a foundation she could build on. It offered her flexibility, not as a backup plan, but as a deliberate direction. A path wide enough to grow into, no matter who she becomes in the future.
Throughout her college journey, Anya has built a strong record of both academic and leadership achievements. She was a Dean’s Lister during the academic year 2023 to 2024, received the Best Opinion Writer award from Chi Rho Publications in 2024, served as President of the Inter-School Business Association for SY 2024 to 2025, and placed as Second Runner-Up in the Case Study Competition at Beyond 2026. Among these, the recognition that resonates most with her is her work in journalism.
For Anya, writing is not just an academic exercise. It is a form of resistance and care. In a time where information can be filtered, reshaped, or silenced, she sees value in honest expression. Through her writing, she contributes not only ideas, but truth. That award became a reminder that words, when used with intention, can create space, challenge perspectives, and reach people in ways that matter.
Outside the classroom, Anya has been deeply involved in organizations that reflect her commitment to leadership and advocacy. As President of the Inter-School Business Association, she represented over 300 Business Administration students and led major initiatives that required both vision and coordination. She also served in the Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral as part of the Events Management and Finance Committee, and will continue her leadership as Finance Officer for the upcoming academic year.
Her involvement extends across multiple organizations, including the Junior Year Council, CEDAW Youth, Chi Rho Publications, Miriam Environmental Planning Organization, Pax Christi, and ODHEA, where she first served as a First Year Representative. Beyond campus, she gained professional experience through internships at Alburo Alburo and Associates Law Offices and later at Sadsad Tamesis Legal and Accountancy Firm. These roles allowed her to engage in administrative work, content creation, and financial processes, giving her a clearer understanding of how systems operate beyond theory.
Each of these experiences shaped Anya in different ways. Leadership taught her to look inward before leading outward. She learned that growth requires honesty, especially in recognizing one’s own limitations and missteps. Advocacy, particularly through her work in CEDAW Youth and Chi Rho, taught her that having a voice comes with responsibility. It is not enough to speak; one must also create space for others to be heard. Meanwhile, her internship experiences grounded her academically, allowing her to see how knowledge translates into real-world decisions and consequences.
When asked how she serves others, Anya keeps her answer simple. She shows up. Whether it is writing pieces that reflect unspoken student sentiments, creating materials for advocacy, representing student voices, or managing the financial side of events so they can come to life, she chooses to contribute in ways that are consistent rather than performative. For her, service does not always need to be grand. It only needs to be steady and sincere.
Anya began her journey as a scholar in SY 2025 to 2026 under a financial aid scholarship. While it provided support in a practical sense, its impact on her went deeper. It became a personal commitment. A quiet promise not to waste the opportunity given to her. Instead of pressure, it gave her purpose. It pushed her to say yes more often, to be more present, and to treat each opportunity as something worth earning.
What keeps her grounded is structure. She follows a routine, working within set hours each day, creating boundaries that allow her to stay focused without burning out. For her, discipline is not about restriction but stability. It gives her a sense of control in moments when everything else feels uncertain. Alongside this, her support system remains constant. Her loved ones may not always fully understand everything she goes through, but their presence is enough. They stay, and that steadiness carries her through.
At the core of everything Anya does is a simple motivation. She wants to build a stable life. Not necessarily perfect, but something she can call her own. A life shaped by effort, intention, and consistency. That vision continues to guide her, even on days when progress feels slow.
Her journey is not defined by noise or constant recognition, but by the quiet weight of showing up, choosing to stay, and doing the work even when no one is watching.
