“Kindness as Strength”
Gratiana Hann Danet L. Francisco, fondly called Gaecy, is a 4th Year BA International Studies student majoring in International Politics and Peace Studies. Her family and friends describe her as “beaming like sunlight,” “charming,” “effervescent,” and “green”—a reflection of her bright personality and deep passion for the environment. These words perfectly capture her light—warm, lively, and full of purpose.
For Gaecy, her journey began with a simple yet powerful dream: to change the world. This vision led her to pursue International Studies, a program that allows her to understand global systems and explore how nations can work together for peace and justice. Through it, she found a meaningful way to turn her ideals into action, blending diplomacy, leadership, and service.
Throughout college, her dedication has consistently shone through. A Dean’s Lister and an active delegate in both local and international conferences, she represented Miriam College at the Model United Nations of the Far West (MUNFW), where her delegation earned the Plenary Speaker Certificate, Slanczka Achievement Award, and Mike McBride Award. She also served as Legal Officer of the UN Environment Assembly in the 9th MCIS-MUN and later as Chair/President of the General Assembly in its 10th edition. Beyond diplomacy, she presented at the 2025 WSAP International Conference, served as Secretary of the International Studies Society, and continues to thrive in Radio MC as Executive Vice President and Senior Jock.
Among her many achievements, MUNFW remains the most memorable. Engaging in real-world diplomacy allowed her to apply theory to practice, stepping beyond her comfort zone and developing her confidence in representing global perspectives. For her, it was a humbling and empowering experience that embodied peace, cooperation, and understanding.
Outside the classroom, Gaecy continues to let her light shine through service. Whether she’s hosting events for Radio MC, playing for the Badminton Varsity Team, or volunteering in WAGI, she dedicates her time and energy to her community. These experiences taught her teamwork, empathy, and resilience—values that shaped her into a thoughtful and inspiring leader.
A proud Scranton Scholar for two years and Financial Aid Scholarship recipient for three, Gaecy considers her scholarships both blessings and responsibilities. They have given her the opportunity to grow, pursue her goals, and use her education to uplift others.
Behind her success is a story of strength and love. Losing her mother was one of her greatest challenges, yet her father, sister, partner, and close friends continue to be her pillars of strength. Every step she takes is for them—the people who believe in her and remind her of her purpose.
Her advocacy centers on environmental sustainability and empowering women in the environmental sector. She believes women can play a vital role in addressing global issues through compassion, collaboration, and leadership. Looking ahead, Gaecy hopes to become a life-changer and peacemaker, using diplomacy and education to promote peace and sustainability while amplifying women’s voices on a global scale.
This academic year, Gaecy has embraced an important realization—that life goes on despite pain and challenges. Through loss, she found strength; through struggle, she found clarity. Her journey taught her that success comes not from doing everything, but from doing what truly matters with focus and purpose.
Her guiding principle is simple yet powerful: “Always be kind, compassionate, and considerate, even in the most challenging times.” For her, kindness bridges differences and brings people together. She also believes in the power of teamwork—that greater things are achieved when people work hand in hand.
To her future self and to fellow dreamers, Gaecy shares this message:
“People will believe in you despite challenges. Let that belief be your light—stay kind, stay grounded, and keep working for the change you wish to see in the world.”
Indeed, Gratiana “Gaecy” Francisco is a shining example of how faith, compassion, and purpose can turn dreams into action—and light the way for others to follow.
