Julia Dominique V. Abacan

Julia Dominique V. Abacan is a 2nd Year BA Communication student who radiates positivity, compassion, and kindness to everyone around her. Her character shines as a beam of hope and a symbol of hard work and determination — proof that one can rise, transcend, and truly make a difference. With a vision rooted in compassion, she strives every day to uplift and empower everyone in her community, and be the catalyst for change.

"The Catalyst for Change"

Julia Dominique V. Abacan, a 2nd Year BA Communication is commonly known as Juls, and just like her cheerful nickname, she is a ray of sunshine and hope to others. She is a 2nd Year BA Communication student who possesses impeccable skills in digital media. According to her, her passion for the communication field was ignited at the age of 14 after watching the movie Heneral Luna. Through this experience, she began to understand how paramount words and narratives are in every situation. This realization fueled her determination to utilize media as a tool and become a catalyst for change.

Juls’ passion for learning is evident in her academic achievements since high school. Her dedication and sedulity continue in college, as seen in her consistent inclusion in the Dean’s List — a true fruit of her hard work and perseverance. Beyond being an academic achiever, Juls extends her commitment to shaping a better society through volunteering in various organizations. She is a proud and active volunteer of MMISMO’s Lingkod Mag-aaral, Language Learning Center’s MC Student Buddy, CMO or Campus Ministry Office, and Talitha Cumi. All these experiences prove that she does not only excel academically but also deeply engages in social work. While she remains grateful and proud of her achievements, what truly matters to her is becoming a student who creates positive change and meaningful impact in society — one who helps build a community where everyone thrives and feels empowered.

What makes Juls even more admirable is her drive to excel beyond the classroom. She currently serves as the Secretary of Miriam College COMMSOC (AY 25–26). In addition, she is a Layout Artist for Chi Rho Publications, where she unleashes not only her creativity but also her voice, using design as a means to be heard in society. Her passion for communication does not end there — Juls is also a Junior Jock at Radio MC, a platform she uses to deliver stories that inspire, move, and resonate with others.

Juls is a proud Financial-Aid scholar of MC. As she shared, her scholarship is a constant reminder that all her hard work and efforts are guided by her desire to serve others and create a purposeful future. She maximizes her abilities to uplift those around her, allowing her to work closely with communities and listen to people’s stories. Through these experiences, she has grown more open to diverse perspectives and more aware of the real struggles others face. As a result, she has become more capable of helping those in need and truly embodying what it means to be a catalyst for change.

Juls’ family — especially her mother — serves as her pillar throughout her journey as a scholar. Her mother’s continuous support and encouragement inspire her to keep going and striving. Moreover, the warm and nurturing community of MC’s faculty and staff, with their care and gentle guidance, has given her a second family. She is also deeply grateful for her college friends, who constantly uplift and support her throughout her journey as a communication student and scholar.

Above all, Juls believes that behind her recognitions and achievements is God’s blessing. This grace allows her to continuously serve the community and lead with empathy, kindness, and genuine intention.

If you have read this far, you may have noticed that the phrase “catalyst for change” frequently appears in Juls’ story. This is because this advocacy defines her purpose and drives her to be an effective and responsible citizen—someone who stands up for what is right and creates meaningful, lasting, and empowering change.

Just like her bright and positive personality, Juls goes with the flow of life. When asked about her future plans and dreams, she simply said “wherever the wind may blow me”. Yet wherever life takes her, she still aspires to become a powerful and purposeful communicator who creates impact and positive influence in society. Reflecting on her journey as a scholar, she shared, “It’s not all about receiving assistance to study, but becoming a light to others.” She compares being a scholar to God’s calling — a call to use her gifts to serve others with compassion, kindness, and purpose.

To her future self and to fellow dreamers, Juls leaves this message:
“You are changing the world day by day. Make sure to put kindness in everything you do.”

Truly, Juls is living to be a catalyst for change. She is an epitome of a powerful and limitless woman. In every small step and act of compassion, we see her — a woman who thrives — one who balances various responsibilities, explores different fields, and, most importantly, uplifts the community in the same way she has been uplifted.
