Ruth National

Princess Ruth DV. Nacional, known simply as Ruth, is a 4th Year Bachelor of Arts in Communication student whose journey is marked by drive, passion, and persistence. With a deep love for storytelling and service, she has grown into a student leader who uses her voice not only to inform but to inspire. Through journalism, leadership, and faith, Ruth continues to shape a path rooted in purpose, discipline, and quiet dedication to her craft.

"In the Quiet Work of Becoming"

Princess Ruth DV. Nacional, or Ruth, is a 4th Year BA Communication student who describes herself as driven, passionate, and persistent. Her path toward Communication began in senior high school, when she discovered that writing and public speaking were among her strongest skills. At first, she envisioned herself as a journalist or reporter, but as she explored the field further, she realized that her passion extended beyond a single role. Communication, for Ruth, became a space where she could grow, create, and serve in many different ways.

Throughout her college journey, Ruth has consistently demonstrated excellence in her field. From her first to third year, she received nine Gawad Miriam Awards from the Department of Communication, covering subjects such as Communication Media, Theories of Communication, Gender and Communication, Journalism Practices, Public Relations, and Integrated Marketing Communication. Yet despite these recognitions, Ruth does not single out one achievement over another. For her, these awards represent something greater. They reflect her continuous growth as a student and the passion she brings into every class, every output, and every opportunity to learn.

Beyond the classroom, Ruth has actively immersed herself in various spaces where her skills could make an impact. Since 2022, she has been part of Chi Rho, the official student publication of Miriam College, where she began as a campus journalist. Over time, she earned the trust of her peers and took on leadership roles, serving as Associate Editor in 2023 and eventually as Editor-in-Chief in her final year. Through journalism, she found a platform to tell stories that matter and give voice to the community she represents.

Alongside her work in media, Ruth has also been a dedicated varsity player for the MC HEU Futsal Team for four years. Competing in the WNCAA and celebrating victories with her team taught her discipline, resilience, and the value of teamwork. She also served as a volunteer for the Campus Ministry Office since her first year and recently became part of the Linkod Mag-aaral Program under MMISMO. In addition, she explored opportunities beyond campus through freelance work, volunteer initiatives, and on-the-job training in newsrooms and production companies. Each experience added another layer to her growth, both as a communicator and as an individual.

For Ruth, her talents are not simply personal strengths but tools for service. She views her skills as assets that allow her to contribute meaningfully to her community and to bring glory to God. Her college life has been centered on using what she has been given to uplift others, whether through writing, leadership, or volunteer work. Through these experiences, she learned the importance of being genuine and selfless. Balancing multiple responsibilities has never been easy, but she believes that when the heart is fully invested, even the most demanding journeys become possible.

Ruth entered Miriam College as a financial scholar, and before her first semester ended, she was chosen as a scholar of the Maryknoll College Batch 1986 endowed fund. This opportunity granted her full support for her tuition and expenses until graduation. For Ruth, her scholarship is something she holds with deep gratitude. It reminds her that education is a privilege, and each day in school is a blessing she never takes for granted.

Her scholarship has shaped not only her academic journey but also her outlook in life. It taught her resilience and self-motivation, pushing her to give her best in every task she undertakes. Knowing that her family does not have to carry the burden of her education fuels her desire to excel and to make the most of every opportunity given to her. This sense of responsibility has made her college years both meaningful and fulfilling.

When Ruth reflects on her achievements, she traces them back to one core value: perseverance. She believes that growth happens when one chooses to go beyond comfort and continue giving, even in moments of exhaustion. For her, success is not about doing what is easy but about showing up fully, especially when it is difficult. It is in those moments that she finds the greatest opportunities to grow.

Looking ahead, Ruth dreams of securing a job that will allow her to support her family and give back to those who have supported her throughout her journey. More than personal success, she hopes to make her family proud and contribute to meaningful change in society through her chosen field. She aspires to become the best version of herself in the communication industry while remaining grounded in her values.

Ruth lives by the belief that excellence requires genuine passion. She reflects on the idea that to truly become great at something, one must be deeply invested in it, not for recognition, but for the joy of doing it. Alongside this, she holds on to the promise found in 1 Corinthians 15:58, which reminds her to give her whole heart to her work, trusting that no effort given in faith is ever wasted.

To her future self and to others walking their own paths, Ruth offers this message:

Never be discouraged when it feels like your hard work is not leading anywhere. God sees every effort, and in time, it will bear fruit. Trust your growth, believe in your capabilities, and continue moving forward with faith.

May her journey continue in quiet strength and purpose, a testament that even in the smallest, unseen efforts, something meaningful is always being built.
