Last December 1, 2022 WAGI was invited to speak with 385 Grade 11 students of Miriam College High School for a learning session via Zoom entitled You are Worthy: Identifying Red Flags in Relationships. The session aimed to establish a clear understanding on what is a healthy relationship from what is not; identify warning signs that a relationship is potentially unhealthy or abusive; and reinforce students’ ability to make decisions while providing information on which they can base their decision. The learning session led by Danica Gonzalez, Program Coordinator of WAGI, encompassed every kind of relationship and did not limit the discussion to romantic relationships.
Specifically, the discussion defined gender-based violence and its forms, red flags and concrete examples on how this may look like in a relationship, detecting red flags online, coping with red flags, what to do if they see red flags in relationships of people they cared about, the green flags or indicators of a healthy relationship, foundations in building healthy relationships, and ones (human) rights in a relationship.
