The 142 newly-elected chairs of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Quezon City attended the training entitled, “Environment, Governance, and the Youth,” which was conducted by the Environmental Studies Institute (ESI) on October 22 to November 15, 2018 at the ESI Conference Room in Miriam College.
In partnership with the Barangay and Community Relations Office of Quezon City, the ESI brought together some of the environmental champions from Miriam College and various non-governmental organizations to tackle a broad range of topics relevant to the youth. Among these topics were, the 7 environmental principles, climate change, environmental laws, disaster preparedness, zero-waste and recycling as community business enterprise, and culture. Participants were also given the opportunity to converse with young environmental and social development champions. The highlight of the training was the presentation of community-based environmental project plans by the SK Chairs.
The NGOs that gave support to the training were Green Convergence, Rescue 177, Community Crafts Association of the Philippines, Zero-Waste Philippines, Association on Underwater Activities, Philippine Finswimming Federation, Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan, and Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment.
