Communication students named champions in DOST-FNRI short film competition

The Department of Communication team composed of fresh graduates Jerilee Salvador and Mhikuo Jecino and incoming 4th year student Kathrina Sabatin was named Champion under the Amateur Category of the DOST-FNRI Short Film competition. Sharing their triumph was their film adviser Gilbeys Sardea.

The awarding was held at the last July 5 at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Ortigas. The team’s winning film was titled, Noon at Ngayon, sa Buhay ni Juana and explored how changing bad habits and an unhealthy lifestyle can transform one’s life.  The production and editing was completed in two days.

The competition started as early as March when the Department of Communication was invited by the Department of Science and Technology-Food Nutrition Research Institution (DOST-FNRI) to be a part of their short filmmaking competition with the theme “FNRI sa Buhay ni Juan at Juana”.

The competition aims to transform research and development as well as science and technology services into artistic executions that will captivate the senses. It also hopes to recognize how short films can be used to promote FNRI’s research outputs and services in the areas of healthy eating, utilization of nutrition tools, and use of FNRI products and facilities, among others. Prior to filming, the different competing teams, composed of amateurs and professionals, were toured around the different facilities of DOST-FNRI.
