Digital DESIGN Technology

The Associate in Digital Design Technology program is designed to equip students with a diverse set of skills and knowledge essential for thriving in today’s digital creative landscape. Through a blend of theoretical instruction and hands-on practical experiences, students cultivate proficiency in various aspects of digital design technologies. They gain a solid foundation in new media design, technical drawing, photography, digital imaging, content creation, rendering, and motion graphics, enabling them to create, develop, and utilize software applications related to design concepts effectively. Additionally, the curriculum emphasizes web design and development, and digital advertising with desktop and multimedia design, ensuring that graduates are well-versed in critical areas of new media publishing and technological development. This comprehensive approach enables students to tackle real-world challenges in composition and layout and adapt to the evolving demands of digital content creatives in media.

Program Outcomes

By the end of the program, graduates will be able to    

  • Develop and demonstrate competence and creativity in digital design
    Students will master basic computer design and application programs, enhancing their technical skills and creative abilities to produce innovative digital content.
  • Apply advanced skills in digital design tools and techniques
    Students will proficiently use content creation software, technical drawing tools, digital rendering programs, digital marketing strategies, motion graphics, database design, desktop publishing, and web development to create professional-quality digital products.
  • Integrate diverse perspectives and current trends in digital design projects
    Students will incorporate global, social, cultural, and technological trends into their digital design projects, providing effective solutions that reflect a broad range of perspectives and contribute positively to the digital design field and the wider community.

These competencies can be assessed through a variety of methods, including the following:

First-Year Students:

  • Design of briefs and creative outputs (e.g., posters, logos, digital illustrations)
  • Performance tasks using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Canva
  • Peer and self-evaluations through visual journals
  • Studio-based critiques and consultations
  • Online portfolio assembly using Google Drive or Canva
  • Quizzes on foundational concepts (e.g., elements and principles of design, file formats)
  • Asynchronous discussions and annotated screenshots to explain design decisions

Second-Year Students:

  • Desktop publishing layouts and advanced imaging projects
  • Web design mockups (HTML/CSS outputs via Notepad++, Brackets)
  • Database management exercises and data entry tasks
  • Motion graphics reels using After Effects or equivalent tools
  • Digital marketing campaign plans with audience personas and content calendars
  • Midterm and final projects with rubrics focused on branding, strategy, and execution
  • Group critiques and industry-inspired design challenges
