Environmental Planning Management and Studies
The PhD in Environmental Management and Studies aims to meet the need for high-caliber researchers and problem-solvers in the public and private sectors.
It offers a multidisciplinary approach to the study of the environment, with courses that provide students with viewpoints from the natural sciences, social sciences, law, and engineering. The program allows students to develop higher levels of knowledge, understanding, analysis, and synthesis of environmental problems of today and of the future.
Program Goals
The PhD in Environmental Management and Studies has the following program goals:
- To develop a comprehensive understanding of environmental systems, to conduct advanced research, and to prepare graduates for leadership roles in environmental management and conservation;
- To equip students with advanced skills to address environmental challenges and to contribute to sustainable development; and
- To develop extensive and multidisciplinary knowledge, analytical abilities, technical skills, and innovative thinking required to be a leader in the field of the environment.
Program Outcomes
PO1. Demonstrate high capability to discuss and analyze the major theories and concepts in environmental management and studies.
PO2. Focus on examining the mechanisms and interconnections within and among components of environmental systems, such as the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, and biosphere, and with associated political, legal, social, and economic systems.
PO3.Train professionals capable of functioning in an international setting by equipping them with the comprehensive knowledge and skills needed for resolving conflicts and managing global environmental issues.
PO4 Effectively and efficiently coordinate and engage with different stakeholders in the field of environmental management.
PO5. Conduct comprehensive environmental research and development projects geared towards sustainability.
PO6. Undertake well-researched and meaningful technical feasibility (i.e., environmental impact assessment) and formulate an environmental management plan.
By the end of the program, graduates will be able to
- Have mastery in analysis or deeper knowledge in environmental management/ knowledge building in addressing environmental issues.
- Process-based analysis of environmental problems.
- Practice community engagement skills and stakeholders’ connections involvement in various environmental research and development projects (private and public).
- Have the ability to conduct feasibility studies and formulate environmental management plans.
