“Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.” – Hebrews 13:1–3
Every October, we observe the Prison Awareness Week (PAW) of the Catholic Church in the Philippines—which is also called the National Correctional Consciousness Week of the national government. In line with this celebration and as part of their SOAP (Simple Offering of Affection for PDLs) Project, the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service Foundation, Inc. has asked for assistance from Miriam College in collecting donations of germicidal soap (90g) and ointment to help provide each of the 34,000+ persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) and the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW).
MISMO started accepting donations last September 11, Monday. Since then, several members of the MC community have demonstrated the virtues of heroic generosity, selflessness, and Christ-like charity by giving their donations. While some student volunteers visited MISMO to help in the inventory of the soap and ointment donations. The donations were turned over to Philippine Jesuit Prison Service Foundation, Inc. today, October 17, 2023.
