Miriam College hones leaders and trailblazers who grow within and beyond the walls of the institution. We celebrate our graduates and are proud to share their stories with the world.
This is the story of one of these exceptional women: Althea Supleo, Magna cum Laude graduate of Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship Major in Culinary Arts in Miriam College – a proud alumna of the Skills Development and Technical Education Center. She is also daughter of Chona and Lotus, younger sister of Angelo, living in Marikina City. She is currently managing her own food business in Antipolo.
We sat down with her for a quick chat about her journey at Miriam College.
Why did you choose Miriam College?
Honestly, Miriam College was not my first choice when I was in search of an institution that will help me to achieve my goals in life. However, after passing the MCAT, everything seemed to go smoothly as if I planned to take my tertiary education in Miriam College. “Itinadhana” as they say. Yes, Miriam College was not my first choice, but it is the right, and best choice I’ve made.
What were the challenges that you faced?
The greatest challenge that I’ve faced in my journey was myself. I admit, I always doubt myself and the things that I can do. “Kaya ko ba ‘to? Baka naman bumagsak lang ako? Baka mahirap?” (“Can I do this? I might just fail? It might be too hard”). I was afraid of failure and what people might say when I fail. Hence, I tend to step back, let the opportunities pass, and regret in the end.
How has an MC Education helped you through your journey?
Miriam College has helped students like me a lot. Nowadays, many young people struggle with many obstacles to complete their education. With the pandemic: difficulties in communication, restrictions, finances, and most of all, the risk to health. Despite all this, Miriam College responded and opened its ears to listen to the attitude of students and parents belonging to its community in accordance with the laws of the government. Even before the pandemic, Miriam College gradually shaped their students to participate in serving others especially in times of need. [Miriam College] launched activities, [such as] teaching activities to maintain concern and cooperation for each other and the nation. These are what prepared us to be strong after leaving the institution, to face the real world, and to share with others the appreciation of truth, peace, justice and consideration for the integrity of creation. These are the things that have been shared with me that have helped me in my journey in life, from within and beyond Miriam College.
