Miriam College High School (MCHS) actively supports SDG 1: No Poverty through its Social Action Program, which empowers students and partner communities to address economic challenges. By engaging in initiatives such as livelihood training, financial literacy workshops, and skills development activities under Kaisang Ugnayang Mamamayan (KUM), students help families improve income and achieve self-reliance.
To strengthen local enterprises, MCHS regularly invites partner communities and NGOs to showcase and sell their products during school fairs and Tindasitas, an initiative of TLE and ABM strands. These activities promote community goods, generate income, and foster connections between students and local entrepreneurs. Additionally, seminar-trainings guide communities in creating small businesses to sustain their livelihoods.
Student-led efforts also play a vital role. The Social Action Youth Alliance (SAYA) distributes school supplies and conducts tutorials for children in partner communities, supporting education while building meaningful relationships.
Through these programs, MCHS cultivates empathy and active citizenship among students, families, and partners. By combining outreach, fundraising, and enterprise support, the school helps create long-term systems that prevent poverty and improve quality of life for vulnerable communities—making a tangible contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
