Miriam College is lighting the way toward a sustainable future with the recent installation of a 516.84 kWp grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) system across its campuses. This major renewable energy project, implemented in partnership with Union Solar, reflects the College’s deep commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). By harnessing the power of the sun, the institution is not only reducing its environmental impact but also educating the next generation of sustainability leaders.
The solar panels have been strategically installed at five key locations:
- Quezon City Campus:Sister Mary Thomas Building, Grade School Library Media Center, High School Library Media Center, and the Cafetorium.
- Miriam College Nuvali Campus
Together, these installations now provide approximately 40% of the electricity for the covered buildings. This significant shift from conventional grid power translates into:
- A substantial reduction in the College’s operational carbon footprint.
- Considerable savings on electricity costs, allowing funds to be redirected toward educational initiatives.
- A resilient and clean energy source that aligns with global climate goals.
By integrating solar power into its core operations, Miriam College is taking a decisive step toward energy independence and environmental responsibility. This project proves that a commitment to clean energy is a cornerstone of building a sustainable and equitable future for all.
