Postgraduate Certificate in
Designing Education
The Postgraduate Certificate in Designing Education has been designed as an integral part of an international Master of Arts degree in Designing Education (MADE), delivered by Goldsmiths, University of London. These combined programmes offer a unique opportunity to explore the relationship between critical design thinking and critical pedagogy to uncover new areas for learning and teaching practice.
The PGCert in Designing Education provides contemporary contextual modules or content that explore and advance, teaching and learning practice in the Philippines and are foundational and integral to progression to the full Master of Arts in Designing Education. PGCert is equivalent to 60 credits towards the full MADE.
Program Outcomes
a. Combine knowledge of design thinking and pedagogy or andragogy to configure innovative solutions to identified concerns and issues in learning environments.
b. Demonstrate informed risk-taking in developing programmes, policies, practices, and processes that build and sustain a culture of innovation within learning environments.
c. Implement a contextualized innovation project that shows the use of human-centered design in generating enhanced teaching and learning outcomes.
Key Competencies Developed
By the end of the program, graduates will be able to develop the following key competencies:
- Critical and Creative Thinking: Apply design thinking and critical pedagogy to identify, analyze, and respond to educational challenges in innovative ways.
- Leadership for Innovation: Exercise visionary and ethical leadership in initiating and sustaining change within learning environments.
- Design and Implementation Skills: Design, prototype, and implement contextually relevant and human-centered innovation projects in schools and learning organizations.
- Reflective and Research-Based Practice: Use inquiry, evidence, and reflective practice to evaluate and improve educational design and innovation processes.
- Collaborative and Inclusive Engagement: Work effectively with learners, educators, and community stakeholders to co-create inclusive and sustainable educational solutions.
These competencies can be assessed through a variety of methods, including the following:
- Design portfolios and project documentation
- Reflective journals and process logs
- Prototype or innovation project implementation and evaluation reports
- Case analyses and design critiques
- Oral presentations and defense of design concepts
- Peer and mentor feedback sessions
Master of Arts in Designing Education
The MA in Designing Education (MADE) is unique internationally as it enables students to explore the relationship between critical design thinking and critical pedagogy in order to uncover new areas for learning and teaching practice. The program re-visits and re-invigorates pedagogical practice through engaging with diverse fields of enquiry such as social justice, 21st century education and sustainable futures, in order to better understand how these may contribute to diverse learning contexts.
This dual awards program is jointly offered by Miriam College and Goldsmiths, University of London
