We are excited to formally welcome you to School Year 2026-2027. This year marks the 100th year of Maryknoll/Miriam education in the Philippines and we have much to celebrate and be thankful for. First and foremost, thank you dear students, parents and guardians, teachers, administrators, office staff, and outsourced personnel for being part of Miriam College, and for choosing to join the Grade School community.  

Every single one of us is called to make God’s love visible. Every single one of us should be aligned to our school’s vision and mission. Every single one of us is expected to be living examples of our 4 core values and the 11 ideals of the Maryknoll Sisters. And each day brings an invitation to be kind to one another and contribute meaningfully to our community.  

Learning is a never-ending process. In the Grade School, we witness how children aged 3 to 11 years old transform year after year in their spiritual, moral, and psychosocial development. With our flagship teaching-learning framework of Laro, Likha, at Linang and our Student Formation Framework of ISIP, PUSO, at GAWA, we accompany the children in their journey with a more focused, purposive, and balanced approach.  

Challenges should be perceived as opportunities for improvement and growth. While mistakes might be made along the way, that is still part of the learning process. Effort, hard work, and persistence are vital to achieving success. Just as Mother Mary remained steadfast at the foot of the cross, in spite of all the hardships and heartaches, we too are invited to be solid and grounded. Remember: Do not prepare the road for the child. Rather, prepare the child for the road. 

Observe practices that will help us be the best that we can be. Have a balanced diet.  Keep your water jug close by. Exercise for at least 30 minutes each day. Get enough sleep.  Put down your phones and lessen your screen time. Look people in the eye when you talk to them. Be wary of information about other people that you are unauthorized to receive or process. Keep your social media accounts private and refrain from communicating with people you do not know. Pause and reflect before responding. Be punctual, professional, and positive. Smile.  

Make sure that we communicate peacefully with one another and remember that we all share a common vision for our children.  A good home-school partnership is grounded in communication and trust.  Teachers are often referred to as second parents, but parents are the forever homeroom advisers of their children. Remember that we are and should always be on the same team. 

Every day has the potential to be a great day or a bad day. Be solution-oriented and keep a growth mindset. Manage time and energy well. Self-discipline, self-regulation, and routines are key to navigating this busy and tiring yet exciting and fulfilling business of nurturing young minds, hearts, and bodies to the fullest potential.  Let’s have a productive and happy school year together and remain steadfast in our mission to love and serve.
