Bachelor of
Early Childhood Education

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) is a four-year program. Specifically, this program provides students with fundamental understanding and application of the principles of early childhood care and education, as well as experience in the application of these principles.
Program Outcomes
The minimum standards for the BECEd program are expressed in the following minimum set of learning outcomes:

- Ability to observe, assess, and respond to children’s individual developmental needs
- Skill in creating environments that support holistic development
- Understanding of curriculum models, approaches, and content areas
- Ability to design play-based, integrated learning experiences
- Skill in implementing a culturally responsive curriculum for diverse learners
- Understanding of various assessment approaches in early childhood settings
- Ability to use observation and appropriate assessment tools
- Skill in adapting teaching strategies based on assessment data
- Understanding of diverse learning needs and inclusive education principles
- Ability to create inclusive learning environments
- Skill in collaborating with specialists and families to address unique needs
- Understanding of program management, ethics, and professional responsibilities
- Ability to conduct research and make evidence-based decisions
- Skill in building family or community partnerships and advocacy
These competencies can be assessed through a variety of methods, including the following:
- First-Year Students: (foundational assessments) observation reports, case studies, and reflective journals focused on building theoretical knowledge
- Second-Year Students: (applied assessments) thematic unit development, portfolio assessment creation, and simulations of inclusive practices
- Third-Year Students: (field-based assessments) curriculum implementation in supervised settings, comprehensive child assessment projects, and action research proposals
- Fourth-Year Students: (professional practice assessments) implementation of original curriculum in internship settings, data-driven instructional decision making, and leadership initiatives

The BECEd program is designed to prepare students for teaching and supporting young children’s development. A broad range of employment opportunities is available by fulfilling the degree requirements. Completion of the appropriate program will qualify graduates for employment in government or private institutions.
