Theory and purpose were put into practice in a recent activity organized by feminist group Baigani and participated in by the graduate students of the Department of Psychology in coordination with Luz Martinez of the Department of Social Work.
Called the KaiSummer Camp, the activity brought together Developmental Psychology graduate students Catherine Pestaño, Ciara Zalameda, Edna Costuna, Jonela Valencia, Kristine Mendoza, and Rhoanne Ramas at the Women and Ecology Wholeness Farm located in Mendez, Cavite last June 1 to 3, 2017.
They applied the skills and theories they have learned in Advanced Counseling and Psychotherapy and Therapeutic Interventions in the module building, planning, and facilitation of the arts and play session with the families that were selected by Baigani. Dr. Grace Brillantes-Evangelista, chair of the Department of Psychology, conducted arts and play psychosocial sessions with the children of these selected families.
The KaiSummer camp aims to provide basic psychosocial support to the families from the partner indigent community of Baigani. One of its goals is to provide a safe space that will allow participants to reconnect with themselves and with their families.
