QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES — For the third consecutive year, Miriam College transformed its campus into a hub of collective action and solidarity as it hosted its annual institutional dance mob in celebration of National Women’s Month.
The event, held on March 3, 2026, at the Miriam College Football Field, marked the school’s participation in the global One Billion Rising campaign, the world’s largest mass action to end violence against women and girls (VAW/G).
This year’s dance mob was guided by the theme, “Balancing the Scales: Levelling the Field”. Aligned with UN Women’s global advocacy, the theme moved beyond simple awareness-raising to call for deep, systemic change. It served as a powerful reminder of a shared responsibility to pursue fairness, inclusivity, and accessible justice by taking deliberate, weighted steps to correct long-standing disparities.
A Call for Equitable Action
“Balancing the Scales” challenged all sectors of society to examine where imbalances in power, opportunity, and representation persisted. Miriam College’s campaign spotlighted action across four critical dimensions:
- Justice & Safety: Demanding equitable access to legal systems, strengthening institutional accountability, and safeguarding women from all forms of violence.
- Opportunity & Economy: Closing persistent gender gaps in leadership, wealth, wages, and access to capital and decent work.
- Voice & Representation: Advancing parity in decision-making spaces, media, and all platforms where policies and cultural narratives are shaped.
- Care & Recognition: Valuing and redistributing unpaid care work while actively dismantling stereotypes that limit human potential.
“When we talk about balancing the scales, it is not a zero-sum game,” explained a Miriam College-Women and Gender Institute (WAGI) representative. “When society advances justice and equality for women, everyone benefits. We create greater stability, foster innovation, and build a more prosperous community for all. This dance mob is a vibrant, physical manifestation of our commitment to adding our weight to the scale of progress.”
