In July 1991, a couple of weeks after Mt. Pinatubo erupted, Miriam College, through its relief operations Kilusang Miriam sa Kalamidad (KMK), brought not only relief goods to affected areas (Floridablanca, Olongapo, Masinloc to name a few) but joy, laughter, and friendship as well. Several employees from different units joined this activity; we even had lunch outside the house of one of the volunteers amidst the sands. It was during this calamity that I got to work with other MC employees and formed friendships with them. I was still on a non-permanent status then, and I was inspired by how Miriam.College responded to the call of times. The spirit of volunteerism is very much alive in MC, then and now.
