At Miriam College Grade School, education extends far beyond the classroom. We believe that character, empathy, and social responsibility are not just taught—they are lived. Our outreach programs are carefully woven into the school experience to nurture these very traits, transforming students into confident learners and compassionate citizens.
Foundations of Care: Lingap Kapwa & Kapitbahay
Our flagship programs are built on Filipino values of deep care and community. Lingap Kapwa (“nurturing care for a fellow human being”) and Kapitbahay (“neighbor, or anybody who needs assistance”) are more than events—they are a sustained part of our school culture. By regularly engaging in service, our students develop a lifelong habit of sensitivity and action, learning to see and respond to the needs around them.
Empowering Students to Lead Their Own Outreach
Beyond participating in established programs, our students discover they have the power to initiate change. Through project-based learning, they learn to identify real community needs, design their own authentic responses, and build meaningful connections.
This empowerment takes shape at every grade level. For example:
• In Preschool, children ran activity sales and donated the proceeds to the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation, helping provide boats that bring education and opportunity to children in marginalized communities.
• Our Grade 3 students launched the Love Can project, delivering care packages and gratitude to daycare teachers, barangay tanods, and health workers.
• Grade 5 students spent an afternoon with orphans in Marikina, sharing snacks and companionship—nourishing both body and spirit.
The Lasting Impact: More Than Projects, It’s Purpose
These experiences do more than help others; they fundamentally shape our students. Thinking of others and reaching out:
• Nurtures deep empathy and social awareness.
• Builds confidence in their own ability to make a difference.
• Spotlights shared humanity in a complex, often divided world.
It’s not just about building boats or bridges. It’s about building character. In a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) world, our students are learning that love and service are powerful forces for personal and social transformation
